Tourists in Vermont

December 8th, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

7/10/07: A sampling of out of towners on Church St one evening. Vermont is a popular summer tourist destination. Where do people come from, what do they do here and what do they think of the state? Big draws are Lake Champlain, the shopping, the Ben and Jerry’s factory and VT Teddy Bear Co. Also, many people do day trips from Canada. Location: Church St, Burlington Vermont

Included there was the only medical college for the negro population in the country at that time. The men also served in the armed forces, such as the civil war, ww1, ww 2, the Korean War, as well as the Vietnam War. The point here is that although the state is primarily white and has been for some time, this was not always the case. And the choice for the African Americans was usually one based on economics. Many of them removed to Saratoga Springs to work and live.

Believe it or not, Vermont was the first state to repeal slavery laws. Vermont also has many safe houses listed with the Underground Railroad Registry. Many famous African Americans came to live or were born in Vermont, such as Jeffrey Brace, a famous blind slave from Nigeria who was considered to be one of the most well versed men of his time, and the first African American college president in the US, Martin Freeman was born in Rutland. Castleton had a very high negro population in the 1800′s.

Degmar, I live in Vermont but have traveled elsewhere…Burlington is large in landspace I guess you could say but on a national level hardly qualifies as a city.

I live in Saint Albans Also…Stay in Cali lol. Vermont is a great tourist state, but once you’ve lived here a while and the novelty of all of the tourist attractions wears off it’s really nothing special.

Isn’t it funny how the whiter the state the more likely they are to be liberal? Vermont is 98% white, I’d like to see how liberal they would after setting up some Section 8 housing and importing hundreds of thousands of blacks and illegal immigrants.
